Welcome to LOVE OF ANIMALS, INC.
One of the problems faced by public shelters is the fact they are not staffed, nor equipped and funded, to deal with any creatures other than dogs and cats. If they're fortunate, they have access to wildlife rehabilitation facilities for hawks, owls, coyotes, bobcats, and so forth. In the counties of Tulare, Kings, Fresno and part of Kern, that facility is Critter Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Station (www.crittercreek.org). They do a wonderful job with wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, but . . .
. . . let's talk about farm animals, including fowl. Critter Creek cannot take in farm or domestic animals and birds, and still remain true to its mission. For that reason, Love of Animals currently maintains a mini-sanctuary in the back-yard corrals -- the peaceable kingdom -- of one of its board members. As of 2005, more than 50 creatures are in residence, including: llamas, potbellied pigs, pygmy goats, sheep, geese, an emu, ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, pigeons and doves. Most of these animals and birds are available for adoption (excluding the llamas, which have ongoing health issues).
Love of Animals, Inc., has a long-term goal of owning and operating a domestic animal sanctuary of significant size. As stated, that's a long-term goal, and will require the donation of sizeable acreage, either in the flatlands or the foothills. In the meantime, the organization must make do with this mini-sanctuary. For more information, click on the "Contacts" menu item.
